HCG (Human Chorionic Gonadotropin) is the pregnancy hormone that secretes once implantation has occurred USUALLY around 7-10 days past ovulation. For those of you who are tracking fairly early, it’s always recommended to use a highly sensitive home pregnancy test around 10-25miu as it will pick up the lowest concentration of HCG during early pregnancy.
LH (Luteinizing Hormone) is the hormone that is constantly running through our bodies at all times. Just prior to Ovulation, it will heighten, causing it’s levels to increase and you can test positive for the increase using an OPK which *should* indicate Ovulation approaching about 12-48 hours after your first positive test.
This is WHY Charting your BBT (Basal Body Temperatures) are so important. Sometimes your body can essentially *Gear Up* for ovulation – Positive OPK, Fertile Quality CM (Cervical Mucus), Fertile CP (Cervical Position), etc. And you may not actually ovulate. Your BBT will CONFIRM whether or not this happens as the Follicular Phase tends to be dominated by Estrogen (which causes the lower temps temps) and the Luteal Phase tends to be dominated by Progesterone (which is a heat induced hormone which causes the higher temps) and is needed to sustain a healthy potential pregnancy.
